I use a few different AI tools every day. ChatGPT for some things, Claude for others, a coding tool at work. Each one is genuinely useful, and each one makes me start over. I explain who I am, what I'm working on, and how I like to get answers. Then I do it again in the next tool. Then again next month when another one shows up.
Every tool keeps its own memory of me, and none of them compare notes. Over time they drift, so I end up looking after three or four slightly different, slightly wrong versions of myself. And I usually can't see what any of them has actually saved.
Mimesis started as my fix for that. It's one memory that belongs to me, and any of my AI tools can read from it. I set my context once, and every tool works from the same picture instead of the partial one it put together on its own.
What this actually fixes
Repeating yourself. Your role, your preferences, the projects you're in the middle of: you write them down once, and every tool uses them from the start. No more re-explaining yourself at the top of each new chat.
The drifting versions of you. Today one tool remembers a preference you dropped six months ago, and another never learned it at all. When they share one memory, they work from the same current picture, so the help you get lines up.
Being locked in. Your memory doesn't live inside one company's product. Switch tools, or run a few at once, and you don't lose anything. It moves with you, not with the vendor.
Not knowing what's stored. You can open your memory, read all of it, and change or delete anything. When a tool wants to remember something new about you, it asks first, and you approve it before it sticks. Nothing gets filed away behind your back.
Privacy. The memory is yours and stays under your control, instead of feeding a product you don't own.
That point about visibility matters more than it sounds. Most of the unease people have about AI memory isn't that the tools get things wrong. It's that you can't see what they've kept, or tell whether it's even accurate. Reading the whole thing and choosing what stays is a very different feeling from hoping it's fine in there somewhere.
It plugs into the tools you already use
Mimesis isn't one more app to check. It connects to the assistants and multi-agent systems you already run, so your memory shows up right inside them. I built it for my own setup first. I use it with Hermes and OpenClaw for agent work, and with Claude Cowork on the desktop. The rule is simple: if a tool speaks MCP, the open standard these systems are adopting, it can read from your memory. That already includes Claude Code, Cursor, and Goose, with more arriving as the standard spreads.
Where your team of agents keeps its memory
More and more, the useful setup isn't one assistant. It's a team of them: a developer agent, a marketing agent, an executive assistant, each doing focused work under a main agent you run. You build that team in whatever system runs it. The trouble is the old problem made bigger. If every teammate keeps its own separate memory of you, a whole team drifts out of sync instead of just one tool.
Mimesis is where that team's memory lives. You create the agents; Mimesis holds each one's memory, its persona, and its settings, all drawn from the same picture of you. Your developer agent and your assistant agent know the same facts about you and behave completely differently. It already lets you shape and revise an agent's persona in one place, instead of hand-editing scattered config files. Where this is going: when you add a role, Mimesis suggests a strong starting point, and each agent draws on the slice of your memory that fits its job.
I think this is where the work is heading. As companies begin expecting their people to run a small team of agents, "which of my agents knows this, and is it right" becomes a real question. One shared memory you own, can see, and can shape in one place is a better answer than a stack of hidden ones.
It matters more as AI does more
AI tools are starting to run on their own for longer stretches, and when they do, they write to their own memory without stopping to check. That works until one of them records something wrong. After that, the mistake shapes everything it does next, and you may never learn where it came from.
Mimesis draws a hard line here. Anything an agent concludes about you stays a suggestion until you approve it. The tool proposes, and you decide. It's a small rule, but it keeps you in charge of your own record rather than handing that job to software.
If you lead AI adoption for a team
The same benefits turn into things you'd actually want to promise your people:
- Their context follows them from tool to tool, instead of being rebuilt each time.
- They own it, not the vendor, so it isn't tied to one provider's pricing or roadmap.
- You can always answer "what does this tool know about me, and why," because all of it is visible.
- You're not locked into one AI company to keep what your team has built up.
None of that asks you to bet the whole organization on a single model or a single vendor.
Where it stands today
I'll be straight about the stage. Mimesis is an early beta, and I'm building it in the open. What's real right now: it's a memory you own, you control what goes into it, and it works across the tools you already use. It isn't a finished product, and I won't pretend it is. The parts I'm surest of are the principles underneath it. Your AI's memory of you should be yours, you should be able to see it, and nothing should go in without your say-so.
